Gwinnett Braves 3, Louisville Bats 1

Box Score

  • Ronald Acuna, RF: 0-4, .330/.403/.539
  • Kade Scivicque, C: 1-4, 2 RBI, .206/.270/.206
  • Aaron Blair, SP: 6 IP, 5 H, 0 ER, 2 BB, 3 K, 4.39 ERA

Aaron Blair pitched well again and the Braves got some timely hitting as Gwinnett took down Louisville by the score of 3-1. After a rough stretch that was not helped by some issues with blisters that stretched into June, Blair has seemingly settled in for Gwinnett over the last month and a half or so. He has not given up more than three runs in his last seven starts and continues to remain on the periphery of getting back to the majors to either help out in the bullpen or make a spot start if needed. It does not seem likely that he has a future in the Braves’ rotation, but his recent performances combined with him already being on the 40-man roster has at least kept his name in the conversation.

On offense, Ronald Acuna went 0-4 which either marked the end of his latest hitting streak or is an error in the box score which, based on his recent performance, seems more likely to be the latter. Of Gwinnett’s seven hits in the game, only one when for extra-bases in the form of a double from Xavier Avery. That said, Gwinnett did just enough on offense to get the win despite missing multiple scoring chances. Carlos Franco reached base three times and drove in a run while Kade Scivicque had the biggest hit with a two-run single in the seventh inning that scored Dustin Peterson and Kyle Kubitza.

Mississippi Braves 0, Jacksonville Jumbo Shrimp 2

Box Score

  • Austin Riley, 3B: 1-4, .273/.311/.384
  • Alex Jackson, C: 1-4, .156/.289/.250
  • Mike Soroka, SP: 6 IP, 5 H, 2 ER, 1 BB, 3 K, 2.70 ERA

Mike Soroka continued to do Mike Soroka things, but the offense did not show up in any meaningful way as the Braves fell 2-0. Despite taking the loss in this game (insert rant about why W-L stats are incredibly dumb here), let’s take a moment to appreciate just how good Mike Soroka has …
