One day after losing the Wilson National League Defensive Player of the Year Award to Arizona's Gerardo Parra, Atlanta Braves shortstop Andrelton Simmons added the NL Rawlings Platinum Glove Award to a repertoire that already includes his first Gold Glove Award.

Rawlings issued Gold Glove Awards last week to the best defensive player in each league at each position. Their Platinum award is a "best of the best" award, acknowledging the best defensive player in each league, regardless of position.

The Rawlings award uses results from fan voting along with analysis from the Society for American Baseball Research (SABR) to choose a defensive winner in each league.

Simmons recorded a 5.4 defensive WAR in 2013, tying him for the best defensive season in Major League history. He is credited for saving 41 runs, a record for shortstops since it began being tracked in 2003, while leading the National League in total assists.

Third baseman Manny Machado of the Baltimore Orioles won the award for the American League.
