Andrelton Simmons had one of the best ever defensive seasons in Major League Baseball history, and the Atlanta Braves shortstop just got his first award for it in the 2013 Fielding Bible Awards.

Instead of one per league, the Fielding Bible Awards go to the best defensive player at each position in all of MLB.

"They were, without a doubt, the best fielders last year at their position, regardless of league," Fielding Bible author John Dewan said on mlb.com.

Simmons set a single-season record this year by accumulating 41 defensive runs saved, a stat that was first tracked by Baseball Info Solutions in 2003. He is expected to also win the National League Gold Glove, which will be presented Tuesday night.

The awards were tallied by a 12-man analyst vote.
