There hasn't been a lot of talk surrounding which position players Fredi Gonzalez will carry on the Atlanta Braves' playoff roster, but if one thing is clear, it's that B.J. Upton and Dan Uggla should be left off for the National League Division Series against the Los Angeles Dodgers.
The reasons are plain but even beyond their abysmal lines of Upton's .184 average and Uggla's .179 mark.
Upton has one hit in his last 36 at-bats dating back to Sept. 4. Since Aug. 1, Uggla has hit .103.
That's not just bad; it's horrific. The fact that the Braves put up the second best record in the National League despite their two highest paid players having the two worst batting averages in the Major Leagues is well documented, but literally any other player in the bigs would be a better option than these two right now.
And anyone at second base is a defensive upgrade over Uggla, so Elliot Johnson's .261 average and eight steals in just 32 games with the Braves blows Uggla's production out of the water.
Gonzalez has led the Braves this far through injuries and Uggs and B.J.'s lack of contribution; he'll know what to do come Thursday.
