In the long road back from Tommy John surgery, Atlanta Braves reliever Jonny Venters threw Tuesday for the first time since having the operation in May, braves.com reports.

Venters played catch from a distance 30 feet after having his second career Tommy John operation this season. He was originally diagnosed with a sprained elbow, but rehab attempts went poorly. Venters is aiming to be back by June 2014.

The 2013 season wasn't so kind to Venters, who didn't throw at all for Atlanta. He has 230 appearances from 2010-12.
