With the National League East division title in their possession, the Atlanta Braves must keep winning in order to obtain the coveted home field advantage for the duration of the NL playoffs.

At 92-64, the Braves currently have the NL's best record, but only by a half game margin over the St. Louis Cardinals. Atlanta's magic number for home field advantage is five.

The Braves have six games left to play during the regular season, while the Cardinals are left with five games. Over the past ten games, Atlanta has a record of 4-6 versus a mark of 6-4 for St. Louis. Both teams have taken turns resting their starters to prepare for postseason play.

With several of their core players, including Jason Heyward and Jordan Schafer back from injuries, the Braves appear to be poised for success for the end of the regular season and beyond.

The Los Angeles Dodgers remain two games behind the Braves for best NL record and the Pittsburgh Pirates and Cincinnati Reds, fighting for the fourth and final wild card playoff spot, remain 2.5 games back.

Atlanta has been in first place or tied for first place since April 5, the fourth day of the regular season. They deserve the home field advantage crown, a bonus at the end of a well-played season.

But in order to receive it, they will have to earn it during the season's final week.
