The Atlanta Braves actually clinched the National League East with the Washington Nationals' loss Sunday, but their win over the Chicago Cubs added the cherry on top of Atlanta's NL-best record.

With their first division title since 2005, Fred Gonzalez summed up what many thought about the feat.

"I told [bench coach] Carlos Tosca, I don't know whether to smile or to cry," Gonzalez said on braves.com.

The Braves, who have been in first place a Major League-best 175 consecutive days, crowded around Craig Kimbrel after recording yet another strikeout to end the game.

"After that last pitch, I don't even know what happened," Kimbrel said. "It was great. It was everything we've worked for the last few years. We've been through a lot together."

Atlanta has a slim one-game lead over the St. Louis Cardinals for the NL's best record. With a week of games left, their magic number to clinch homefield advantage is seven.
