The Atlanta Braves bullpen couldn't hold on for the win, but that shouldn't detract from the very impressive start David Hale put together in his Major League debut Friday against the San Diego Padres.
After not striking out more than six this year at Triple-A Gwinnett, Hale started his big league career by striking out nine batters in just five innings, the most for a pitcher in his Braves debut.
Hale, a Georgia native and graduate of Princeton University, held the Padres scoreless through five innings, giving up just four hits and one walk.
