The Atlanta Braves trimmed their magic number to six, relying on their big boppers in the middle of the lineup and a strong spot start by Freddy Garcia to beat the Miami Marlins 6-1 in the series finale.
The Braves pounded Marlins starter Brian Flynn early, torching him for four runs before he recorded an out in the third inning. After loading the bases with three straight walks, Evan Gattis laced a double to left field for two runs. Chris Johnson then hit the first pitch he saw for another two-run double.
Freddie Freeman capped off the Braves' scoring with a two-run homer in the fourth inning, his 20th of the year.
The lone run Miami scratched out off Garcia came in the third, when Rob Brantly started the inning with a single. After Flynn moved him to second on a sacrifice bunt, Donovan Solano drove him in with a single.
But that was it for the Marlins, as Garcia gave up one run on five hits and a walk in his six innings.
Jordan Walden also had his first action since Aug. 21 with a scoreless seventh inning.
The win gave the Braves a 3-4 road trip before their three-game home series with the San Diego Padres.
