It took Julio Teheran an inning to settle in, but when he did, the effort was good enough to lead the Atlanta Braves to a 4-3 win over the Miami Marlins on Tuesday at Marlins Park, cutting their magic number to win the National League East to seven.

Having been given an early two-run lead on RBI-doubles by Evan Gattis and Brian McCann, Teheran struggled to find his groove in the first inning after having his turn in the rotation skipped last week. He gave up three runs on a Giancarlo Stanton double, Logan Morrison bloop single and Donovan Solano fielder's choice that would have been a double play if not for Andrelton Simmons' poor throw to first.

The Braves picked up Teheran in the third inning, however, when Tom Koehler gave up another RBI-hit to Gattis and an RBI-single to Chris Johnson.

The Marlins threatened to tie in the ninth inning when Placido Polanco doubled with one out off Craig Kimbrel. After Polando was replaced with a pinch-runner in Jake Marisnick and Chris Coghlan struck out for the second out, Marisnick got hung up between second and third on what would have been a wild pitch while Ed Lucas was batting. The ball sneaked under McCann's glove but bounced off the backstop back to him, allowing him to throw to Johnson at third, who relayed the ball to Uggla for the putout.

The win was the Braves' second in a row, but the Washington Nationals won their game, meaning the Braves' magic number only went down to seven.

Gattis' two hits brought his average to .346 since being brought back from Triple-A Gwinnett. He leads all Major League rookies with 52 RBIs.

Atlanta got a scare when Justin Upton left the game after fouling a pitch off his right knee. He is currently considered day-to-day.
