Atlanta Braves to Call up Catcher Christian Bethancourt

The Atlanta Braves are planning to call up catcher Christian Bethancourt from Double-A Mississippi on Monday, Tom Hart reports.

Bethancourt is known for his defense, and his .277 average with 12 homers and 45 RBIs put to rest some of the concerns surrounding his offensive production.

The move gives Atlanta four catchers, along with Brian McCann, Gerald Laird and Evan Gattis. Gattis will likely be used more in left field with Jason Heyward's absence.

The Braves signed Bethancourt, a Panama native, as an amateur free agent in 2008 at the age of 16.

For those wondering, there's been no word on Tommy La Stella yet.

It’ll be interesting to see how this guy performs against big league pitching. Excited to see that arm of his.
