Andrelton Simmons, the shortstop for the Atlanta Braves is in the midst of his first full season at the major league level. Originally known for his astonishing instincts and defensive prowess, a rise in offensive production has made him a strong candidate for National League MVP.

It is guaranteed that any ball hit towards the side of the field will have Andrelton Simmons involved in the play. Not only does 'Simba' function as a black hole for any balls hit to short, he's been fantastic backing up Chris Johnson on missed grounders to third base, as well as making some great throws from deep short to rob a hit.

Not only has Simmons had an incredibly flashy season at shortstop this year, the statistics back up his play. Simmons ranks 1st in dWAR (5.2), 1st in Putouts at SS, as well as 1st in Total Zone Runs and Range Factor / Game at SS. He's 2nd in Assists both at SS, as well as for any position player, 3rd in fielding percentage (.985), and 4th in double plays turned (83).

Offensively, Simmons has shown some great improvements as well. He currently ranks 3rd in AB's per SO (11.4), 5th in overall WAR (6.2), He's also hit 15 home runs in his first full season as a major leaguer.

It's no secret that defensively, Simmons is in a league of his own. However, should his offense continue to improve, he should be a shoo-in National League MVP, not to mention one of the best shortstops of all time.
