Mike Minor was good in the series opener between the Atlanta Braves and Philadelphia Phillies Friday night, but Cliff Lee was better, sending the Braves to a 2-1 loss at Citizens Bank Park.

With two outs in the seventh, Minor made his only mistake when Cody Asche hit a go-ahead two-run homer, spoiling Minor's seven-inning, nine-strikeout performance.

Lee, on the other hand, barely bested Minor over eight innings, only surrendering a solo homer to Andrelton Simmons in the third as his only mistake. He struck out 10 Braves but didn't walk a batter, throwing 72 of his 103 pitches for strikes. The only other batter to reach against Lee was Chris Johnson on a single in the second.

The tough-luck loss was Minor's first since July 21, though his performance was much improved over his last five starts, where he gave up 15 earned runs in 28 2/3 innings.

The Braves were saddled with their second straight loss, but the Washington Nationals' loss dropped their magic number for clinching the National League East to nine.
