Atlanta Braves center fielder BJ Upton has had a disappointing season. You'll hear this not only from the many Atlanta fans who have booed him after multiple strike-out games, but you'll also hear it from the man himself.
BJ knows he's struggling, and has spent countless hours working on correcting his swing, which has led to short outbursts of the BJ Upton the Braves hoped to sign. Unfortunately, these bursts have been few and far between, leading to frustration for all involved.
In April, BJ was good for a .143 batting average, with 32 strike outs over the course of only 24 games. During this same stretch, BJ only tallied 13 hits, going on multiple stretches of consecutive games without a hit.
In 22 games in May, BJ's batting average was sitting at a slightly improved .147, with 31 strike outs in fewer games than April, hitting only ten times in the month. June and July saw a short resurgence, with BJ batting a combined .222, having only played 2 games in July after a knee injury landed him on the DL for the majority of the month.
For the season, BJ sits at a .197 batting average, after a very strong showing thus far in late August and early September. After going 4 for 6 in an extra innings game against the Miami Marlins August 31th, BJ raised his batting average a full nine points, from .186 to .195.
August and September have typically been BJ's strongest month in past seasons, and with a beleaguered Braves outfield with Jason Heyward, Jordan Schafer, and on occasion Justin Upton missing games with injuries, now is a better time than ever for BJ to come through.
