The Atlanta Braves started their September call ups by purchasing the contract of the recently acquired Freddy Garcia, reports.

The Braves made a waiver trade for Garcia with the Baltimore Orioles on Aug. 23 to bolster their pitching staff. Fredi Gonzalez said he will be mainly used in relief, though he could also make a spot start or two to rest the Braves' young arms.

Garcia struggled with the Orioles this season with a 5.77 ERA in 11 games. He was also hit hard with Triple-A Gwinnett, giving up eight earned runs over 3 2/3 innings in one outing.

The 36-year-old righty has only made 16 relief appearances, but he has a career 155-106 record and 4.18 ERA over 15 Major League seasons.
