Atlanta Braves Slip by Miami Marlins 2-1

The Atlanta Braves were involved in another pitching duel Friday night, beating the Miami Marlins 2-1 at Turner Field in Atlanta.

Starter Julio Teheran (11-7, 3.01) pitched 6.1 innings and Freddie Freeman had a home run and a double for the Braves, who reduced their magic number to 15.

Miami rookie starter Jose Fernandez (10-6, 2.33) allowed two runs through six innings and tripled to lead off the third inning. He later scored on a Christian Yelich single. Yelich led the Marlins with two hits.

Anthony Varvaro recorded his first career save after pitching a perfect eighth and ninth inning for the Braves.

The second game of the series against the Marlins is scheduled for tomorrow night at 7:10 PM. Jacob Turner (3-5, 3.12) will take the mound for Miami against Braves starter Mike Minor (13-5, 2.99).
