The Atlanta Braves were able to exhale when they learned that X-rays on Justin Upton's hand, which had been hit by a Ubaldo Jimenez pitch, came out negative. The Atlanta outfielder is considered day-to-day, and he is optimistic about playing in this weekend's series against the Miami Marlins.
"Whenever it feels better, I'm ready to go," Upton said on braves.com.
Fredi Gonzalez will probably keep Upton out of Friday's series opener and play it by ear after that.
"He's probably going to be pretty sore," Gonzalez said. "But that's fine. I'd rather take sore than the alternative. We'll go day-to-day with him."
