The Atlanta Braves, concerned with Brandon Beachy's health, have traded for Freddy Garcia from the Baltimore Orioles for cash considerations, multiple sources report.

The 36-year-old righty struggled in Baltimore this season with a 5.77 ERA and 3-5 record before being optioned to Triple-A Norfolk in June. He performed much better in his time there, putting up a 2.84 ERA in 13 starts.

Garcia, who first broke into MLB with the Seattle Mariners in 1999, will report to Triple-A Gwinnett.

The acquisition comes after the news that Beachy will see Dr. James Andrews about his bothersome right elbow. The Braves already have five starters even after losing Tim Hudson with a broken ankle, but the club is attempting to cut back on the innings of its younger starting pitchers.

Garcia has a career 156-106 record and 4.18 ERA over 15 Major League seasons.
