The Atlanta Braves defeated the New York Mets 4-1 today at Citi Field in New York, following strong pitching performances by both team's starters.
Chris Johnson bashed a three-run home run off Mets reliever Greg Burke in the tenth following a controversial play at first base that ultimately chased New York skipper Terry Collins from the game.
Freddie Freeman reached first base safely with two outs in the tenth on a bang bang play to keep the inning alive for Johnson. Freeman and Andrelton Simmons each had three hits for the Braves.
New York first baseman Josh Satin's home run to lead off the fourth inning proved to be the Mets only score of the game.
Braves right fielder Jason Heyward left the game in the sixth inning after being hit in the jaw with a 90-mile per hour fastball. He was taken to a local hospital for examination.
Craig Kimbrel pitched the tenth for his 40th save of the season for Atlanta, who improved to 77-49 and increased their lead in the National League East to 15.5 games over the Washington Nationals.
Following today's game the Braves will travel to St. Louis for a four game series with the St. Louis Cardinals beginning tomorrow night at 8:15 PM.
