Julio Teheran Solid as Atlanta Braves Beat Washington Nationals

Phil Gosselin collected two hits in his first Major League start and Julio Teheran pitched six scoreless innings as the Atlanta Braves defeated the Washington Nationals 2-1 on Sunday afternoon at Turner Field. Atlanta leads Washington by 15.5 games in the National League East.

Gosselin, called up on Friday from Triple-A Gwinnett to replace the injured Tyler Pastornicky, started at second base for the Braves. Freddie Freeman and Chris Johnson each had RBI singles for Atlanta, who improved to 76-48 on the season.

Nationals starter Gio Gonzalez pitched well, giving up five hits and walking three through seven innings.

Bryce Harper and Chad Tracy led the Nationals offense with two hits apiece, including two doubles. Jayson Werth drove in Washington's lone run.

Craig Kimbrel pitched the ninth for his 39th save of the season, striking out Harper to end the game. 

Following a day off tomorrow, the Braves will travel to New York's Citi Field for a two-game series against the New York Mets beginning Tuesday at 7:10 PM.
