It probably sounds worse than it really is, but the Atlanta Braves have scheduled an MRI on Thursday for Tyler Pastornicky's sprained left knee that he sustained when he collided with Jason Heyward, ajc.com reports.
Pastornicky was just called up Tuesday to fill in for Dan Uggla, who went on the disabled list prior to eye surgery.
“All the news I’ve heard so far is good,” Pastornicky said.. “They did all the tests on it and the tests all came out all right, but still do the MRI tomorrow and see where it goes from there.”
Heyward and Pastornicky collided on a Jimmy Rollins popup to right field in the third inning. Fredi Gonzalez said he could hear Heyward call for the ball in the dugout, but Pastornicky said he never heard it.
“I didn’t really know what happened because I was trying to catch the ball and it all happened so fast,” Pastornicky said. “I heard nothing. It’s one of those converging plays. I tried to yell as loud as I could but I think he was running in and kind of met at the same time.”
The Braves are hopeful that the off-day gives them enough cushion to only have to rest Pastornicky through Friday's game with the Washington Nationals.
