Kris Medlen greatly helped himself in the Atlanta Braves' win over the Philadelphia Phillies on Tuesday at Turner Field. Not only did he throw seven strong innings, but he swung the bat pretty well, too.
Medlen anchors a rotation along with Mike Minor and Tim Hudson (Yes, he's done for the year, but bear with the argument) that actually knows how to hit. Each of the previously named pitchers has a homer this year, and those three homers are only second to Chicago Cubs five homers this year by pitchers.
An RBI-double by Medlen Tuesday gave the Braves' pitchers 16 RBIs this year, again only trailing the Cubs. That knock also brought Medlen's average up to .200. That, by the way, is better than B.J. Upton and Dan Uggla.
With the feast or famine Braves, sometimes the pitchers have no choice but to help themselves. With this club, even the pitchers are capable of producing, which makes the lineup that much more intimidating.
