The Texas Rangers are so desperate for a bat, that they recently approached the Atlanta Braves about trading for Brian McCann, Ken Rosenthal reports.

With a nine-game lead in the National Leage East, the Braves had no interest in dealing their starting catcher, but the Rangers have asked at least one other time since the end of last season.

McCann is a free agent after this season and figures to be priced out of the Braves' budget. He has hit .284 with 13 homers in 62 games this season.

And it seems McCann hasn't been the only big bat the Rangers have targeted, even within the division. They've also asked about Miami Marlins right fielder Giancarlo Stanton and the Toronto Blue Jays' Jose Bautista and Edwin Encarnacion.
