Brandon Beachy stretched his arm out enough to throw five innings for Triple-A Gwinnett in a rehab start Friday, moving the Atlanta Braves pitcher another stop closer to returning from Tommy John surgery.
Beachy threw 46 of his 70 pitches for strikes. He walked one and struck out three over five innings, giving up one run on five hits.
"I felt like I took a little step forward," Beachy said on gwinnettbraves.com. "I definitely felt more comfortable with my mechanics. I had command of my fastball, felt like my weight was back and I was throwing strikes."
The effort was enough to pick up Beachy's first win in six rehab starts with Gwinnett. He should make at least one more rehab start, which would come Wednesday.
