Oakland Athletic's outfielder Yoenis Cespedes blasted 17 home runs in the first round of the 2013 Home Run Derby at Citi Field on Monday, eventually outlasting Washington Nationals' outfielder Bryce Harper for the title.

Cespedes, who isn't even on the American League All-Star team, bested Harper's eight homers in the final round, his ninth sailing over 450 feet to straight away center field.

The 17 bombs the Cuban defector hit tied David Ortiz's 2005 performance as the third most in a round in Home Run Derby history.

Chris Davis, Harper, Cespedes and Michael Cuddyer graduated to the second round, while captains David Wright and Robinson Cano and two-time champ Prince Fielder were all retired in the first round.
