In one of the stranger plays of the season, Atlanta Braves' starting pitcher Kris Medlen deflected a groundball off the bat of Kansas City Royals designated hitter Billy Butler on Tuesday. The ball caromed off Medlen's glove to Brian McCann, who threw to Freddie Freeman to complete the putout.
The Braves would go on to win 4-3 in the series opener, but it would take someone a while to find another 1-2-3 putout that doesn't involve a double play.
Let the record also show that had Medlen been square to the plate on his follow-through, he would have fielded the ball with no issues.
