The Atlanta Braves tried to avoid the move as long as possible, but they finally had to place Ramiro Pena on the 15-day disabled list with a sore right shoulder. They have recalled Paul Janish from Triple-A Gwinnett to take his spot, ajc.com reports.
Pena had arthroscopic surgery on the same shoulder seven years ago, and it started bothering him again on a checked swing at Dodger Stadium. It wasn't a problem while batting, but Pena said it did cause discomfort throwing.
With their primary utility infielder down Dan Uggla's vision becoming an issue, the Braves have a little uncertainty in the middle infield spots. Tyler Pastornicky started Thursday's game at second base and put together three hits, but his defense is known to be spotty at best.
Janish is generally considered a defensive player who would likely hit eighth when he plays.
