Brandon Beachy will have to wait to return to the Atlanta Braves later than Tuesday. The right-handed pitcher experienced elbow tenderness during his Tommy John rehab, and it was revealed via MRI that it was just inflammation, ajc.com reports. Regardless, Beachy will have to put his rehab on hold.
Beachy couldn't really get comfortable during his last rehab start with Triple-A Gwinnett on Thursday. The good news is that the MRI showed no structural damage.
“I’ve just got some inflammation,” Beachy said. “It’s been building up and just wasn’t going away like the other muscular stuff had and felt like I had some fluid in there….We’re just going to give it some rest and it’ll clear out. I’m not worried at all. It’s just unfortunate, the timing of it. I wish it would have happened three weeks ago instead of right now.”
All said, this minor setback may actually benefit the Braves, who will be forced to make some kind of move to clear out a spot for Beachy in the rotation.
