Jonny Venters originally planned to throw 15-20 pitches off a mound at AT&T Park before Thursday's game between the Atlanta Braves and San Francisco Giants, but the lefty reliever cut the session short with elbow discomfort, ajc.com reports.
Venters stopped at 10 or 11 pitches when he felt the discomfort and thinks it may be related to moving from flat ground to a mound.
“You’re putting new stress on it, different stress than you are when you throw flat ground,” Venters said. “Might be one of those things where you’ve just got to get used to throwing off that mound again. It didn’t feel great, but see how it feels tomorrow.”
Venters received a platelet-rich plasma injection in his left elbow on April 2 in an attempt to stave off his second Tommy John surgery.
