In the first of at least four minor league rehab games, Atlanta Braves right fielder Jason Heyward went 0-for-5 while serving as the designated hitter for Triple-A Gwinnett on Thursday.

Heyward, who is recovering from an appendectomy performed on April 22, struck out three times while getting his legs back under him. He will travel with Gwinnett to Scranton, Pa., for a weekend series, but no timetable has been set for his return.

Heyward took batting practice with the Braves for the third straight day on Wednesday. At the time of his surgery, Heyward had hit .121 with two homers and five RBIs in 17 games.
