With All-Star catcher Brian McCann coming off the disabled list in time for the series opener with the Cincinnati Reds, the Atlanta Braves have made room for him by optioning Tyler Pastornicky to Triple-A Gwinnett, ajc.com reports.
McCann appears ready after offseason shoulder surgery, having gone 8-for-23 with a double and four home runs in seven rehab games with Gwinnett and Single-A Rome.
The decision to option Pastornicky leaves the Braves with three catchers in McCann, Gerald Laird and Evan Gattis. Gattis is also able to play left field and first base as well as giving Fredi Gonzalez a power right-handed bat off the bench.
Pastornicky went 1-for-7 with two sacrifice bunts in six games, including a start at second base.
