The Mets enter Friday's opener having lost 11 of their last 15 games, while the Braves have gone a more modest 4-6 in their last 10 games. The Mets sit five games behind the Braves for the NL East lead, and the Braves are tied at 17-11 for the best record in the National League with the St. Louis Cardinals and Colordao Rockies.
Mike Minor will open the series looking to bounce back from his last start on April 28, when he gave up six earned runs in 6 2/3 innings to the Detroit Tigers. Julio Teheran and Tim Hudson, on the other hand, are looking to string together consecutive strong starts.
The downside is that the Braves will run into NL Pitcher of the Month Matt Harvey, who has gone 4-0 with a 1.56 ERA this season.
The biggest concern for the Braves is obviously their offense, which has scored a total of one run over the past two games. B.J Upton has to get things going; he has four hits in his last 43 at-bats and is sitting at a .134 average this season. We'd rip on Dan Uggla and his .167 average, but he hit a home run last night, so that counts for something.
