The 26-year-old Evan Gattis is in the middle of a storybook rookie season for the Atlanta Braves, and while the generalities of his story are widely known, he delved into more detail with USA Today on Tuesday.
Bob Nightengale dwells on the few days in 2007 when Gattis hit rock bottom.
"I was in a mental hospital," Gattis said. "I couldn't sleep for an entire week, and I knew something was wrong with me. So I got admitted. I was so depressed, all I could think about was killing myself.
"I wanted to kill myself for a long time."
