The Atlanta Braves travel to Comerica Park on Friday to start their first series of the season in an American League stadium. The three-game series with the Detroit Tigers has the potential to boost the Braves and the best record in baseball.
Most importantly, the Braves will miss both Justin Verlander and Max Scherzer, but they still have to deal with Miguel Cabrera (.361, two homers, 20 RBIs) and Prince Fielder (.311, five homers, 21 RBIs).
While Detroit's offense is clearly formidable, their bullpen has been their downfall in their 10-10 record. They have so far put up a 4.86 ERA and blown four saves. Even with the Braves' blown save on Wednesday, their bullpen ERA stands at 1.60.
Also noteworthy is the fact that the Braves finally scored all five of their runs on Wednesday without hitting a home run. They also went 3-for-9 with runners in scoring position, though they're still 24th in the bigs with a .223 average in that situation.
