The Atlanta Braves have shut down Jonny Venters for four weeks, according to a tweet sent out from @braves. The team also reported that he had an injection this morning in his sprained left elbow.

Platelet-rich plasma injecitons are used to stimulate the growth and healing of soft tissue and bone, so the move is an attempt to avoid a second Tommy John surgery for Venters, who originally had the procedure done by Andrews in 2005.

Venters will start a throwing program after four weeks. No timetable has been set for his return.
