Atlanta Braves catcher Gerald Laird should play Monday or Tuesday as he eases back into the lineup while recovering from a strained calf, ajc.com reports.

While battling the injury, Laird has only appeared in 10 games during Spring Training while going 2-for-20 with seven strikeouts. Manager Fredi Gonzalez says Laird should be ready for Opening Day even with the lack of playing time.

“And you know what, that’s given some nice opportunities for the other two guys to play,” Gonzalez said in reference to Evan Gattis and Matt Pagnozzi.

Laird was inked to a two-year contract this offseason to backup Brian McCann, who will be out most of April.
