Atlanta Braves shortstop Andrelton Simmons left Spring Training on Saturday to join his Netherlands national team in Taiwan for the World Baseball Classic. He will be in Asia at least until March 7, braves.com reports.
The journey will take a solid 20 hours, and Simmons is mainly hopeful to regulate his sleep patterns.
''I've tried getting myself tired,'' Simmons said on Yahoo! Sports. ''I hope that's going to help me sleep on the plane.''
Simmons, a Curacao native who will play alongside former Brave Andruw Jones, will play his first game with the Netherlands on March 2 against Korea. If the Dutch are knocked out in the first round, Simmons would return to Lake Buena Vista by March 7, but a second round birth would keep him in Asia until March 9.
The World Baseball Classic championship game will be held March 19, so Simmons could potentially miss the majority of Spring Training.Tags: Andrelton Simmons, Atlanta, Atlanta Braves, MLB, World Baseball Classic
