Now that Brian McCann has reported to Spring Training with the Atlanta Braves, it seems he has finally accepted that his offseason shoulder surgery will probably keep him out of the first two weeks of the season.

McCann underwent a procedure Oct. 16 that inserted anchors into the posterior portion of McCann's shoulder and repaired a labrum tear after playing through most of 2012 injured. Playing through the pain is much of the reason McCann hit a career-worst .230.

"It's not going to do me any good to come back if I'm not 100 percent," McCann told braves.com.

Braves.com also reports that McCann's goal is to return by the Braves' two-game series with the Kansas City Royals which starts April 16.

"Hopefully, I can make that day," McCann said. "Whatever they tell me to do, I'm going to do it and I'm going to be in here doing it. Whenever I can whip a baseball as hard as I can and then wake up the next day without any pain, that is probably when I'll be able to play."

McCann threw three sets of 25 throws from 60 feet on Sunday and is currently limited to hitting off a tee. He should know more about his upcoming rehab schedule when he has a physical exam this weekend.

Gerald Laird is expected to start in McCann's place until he returns.
