Loading ...Former Atlanta Braves starting pitcher Kevin Millwood officially called it a career Saturday, Yahoo! Sports reports. Millwood retired after 16 Major League seasons.
The 38-year-old righty was looking to pitch for either the Braves or Tampa Bay Rays in order to stay close to his Gainesville, Ga., residence and spend more time with his family. When neither team showed interest, Millwood was "just ready to retire."
Millwood was part of two no-hitters in his career. One came in 2003 with the Philadelphia Phillies, and the second was a six-man combined no-hitter last year with the Seattle Mariners.
Though MIllwood's six seasons in Atlanta were undeniably solid, his second full season in 1999 was by far his best. He went 18-7 with a 2.68 ERA and his only All-Star selection.
The Braves selected Millwood in the 11th round of the 1993 draft, making the fact that he made 443 starts that much more impressive. Millwood finishes his career with a 169-152 record and a 4.11 ERA.
Millwood also played for the Cleveland Indians, Texas Rangers, Baltimore Orioles and Colorado Rockies during his career.
