Loading ...The Atlanta Braves introduced Justin Upton with a press conference Tuesday afternoon at Turner Field. It was the first time Upton was able to don a Braves uniform since the enormous trade with the Arizona Diamondbacks on Thursday.
"It's a special day for my family, getting an opportunity to see me and brother on the same field," Upton said on braves.com. "I'm excited to be here and excited to be part of the Atlanta Braves organization, a team with good history."
Upton, who has three years and $38.5 million left on his current contract, will move to left field and join his brother B.J. Upton, who will reside in center field. With Jason Heyward in right field, the Braves look to have one of the best outfields in the majors.
"Little did we know about two months ago when we sat in this room welcoming B.J. to the organization that we'd have the opportunity to get a second Upton," Frank Wren said. "We think it gives us one of the most dynamic outfields in all of baseball. We think it really improves what we've been looking to do over the last few years — get younger, more athletic and get a kind of offense that can be more explosive."
The 25-year-old Justin Upton was a 2009 All-Star, when he cranked 26 homers and hit .300, which he followed in 2011 with another All-Star selection and 31 homers. Though slowed by a nagging thumb injury in 2012, Upton still managed to hit .280 with 17 home runs.
