The Atlanta Braves are looking into the possibility of signing free agent outfielder Scott Hairston to fill their left field gap, tweets Dave O'Brien.
The New York Yankees are also interested, which could drive up the price beyond what the Braves would be comfortable with, which may be a good thing, considering that Hairston has exactly no lead-off qualifications.
Hairston hit 20 homers with a .263 batting average and .299 on-base percentage last season with the New York Mets. The nine-year veteran has a lifetime .247 average and .302 OBP.
Such a move would force Martin Prado or Andrelton Simmons to hit first in the lineup, and there's the fact that Hairston simply isn't consistent enough to be genuinely reliable.
