With former Atlanta Braves outfielder Dale Murphy entering his 15th and final season of Hall of Fame eligibility, support has poured in from all corners of Braves Country, most notably his family sending open letters to the Baseball Writers Association of America and starting a petition. The most recent, a cartoon drawn by his son Tyson, may be the coolest.
The comic, which Tyson Murphy posted to his Tumblr page, says, "When I was younger, my dad brought cities to their feet. He inspired millions. He was a hero. But he was more than that to me. He was my dad."
Tyson Murphy, who currently works as an illustrator for Blizzard Entertainment, admitted that he really didn't know anything about professional sports. However, he did note that Dale is the one who sparked his artistic interests.
"I remember perfectly sitting in our art room in Georgia, tracing the outlines of our feet onto planks of wood, whittling sticks and bars of soap on the back porch, admiring my dad’s doodles that he would do of all our names, and carving our initials into trees as we tried to hunt bats with our BB guns," Tyson Murphy said.
