The Atlanta Braves signed utility infielder and former New York Yankee Ramiro Pena to a one-year Major League contract on Thursday, Mark Bowman tweeted earlier today.

Pena has a .233 career average in parts of four seasons with the Yankees, though he had just 50 total plate appearances in the last two seasons.

The curiosity in the move is that the deal is a Major League deal. Pena is out of options, but Paul Janish, his main competition, is not. They very well could compete for the job during Spring Training.
