The Atlanta Braves secure a vital bench piece today by agreeing to terms with free agent outfielder Reed Johnson. The financial terms have not been disclosed, but the one-year deal also includes a club option for 2014, braves.com reports.
Johnson hit .270 for the Braves last season after coming from the Chicago Cubs with Paul Maholm via a trade deadline deal on July 30. He hit .290 overall between the Cubs and Braves and led the National League in pinch-hitting at a .419 clip.
Johnson's lifetime average sits at .284 over 10 seasons. He provides the Braves with a right-handed bat off the bench as well as a versatile fourth outfielder.Tags: Atlanta, Atlanta Braves, MLB, Reed Johnson
