The Atlanta Braves continue to add to their catching depth by signing journeyman Matt Pagnozzi to a minor league deal. The team expects him to serve as Gerald Laird's backup until Brian McCann returns from off-season shoulder surgery. McCann is slated to miss anywhere from the first two-weeks to a month at the beginning of the season.

Pagnozzi is a career .310 hitter over 83 plate appearances in just 33 career games. He's spent the majority of his playing career bouncing around the minors but does have short stints with the St. Louis Cardinals, Colorado Rockies and Pittsburgh Pirates.  The veteran catcher spent last season in the Triple-A affiliate of the Cleveland Indians where he put up .224/.329/.359 splits. He hasn't had much success at the plate in the minors with a career .220 average and .300 OBP but is widely regarded as a plus defensive catcher.

The Braves also announced they have agreed to terms with minor league catcher Jose Yepez, who played for Triple-A Gwinnett last season.  Yepez, 31, hit .264 in 79 games for the G-Braves.
