It was reported on Monday that the Atlanta Braves were set to acquire Ryan Dempster from the Chicago Cubs, presumably for Randall Delgado. More than 24 hours later, the trade has yet to become official.
Dempster, according to major-league sources, does not want to be traded to the Braves, at least not yet. He prefers the Los Angeles Dodgers and appears to be playing the waiting game to see if talks with the Dodgers can advance.
Dempster has 10/5 rights, which means a player with 10 years of service and five years with the same team can veto any trade. If Dempster does not approve the deal, the Braves would be forced to look elsewhere for pitching.
