The Atlanta Braves have added yet another disappointment for 2012 in the story of Jonny Venters by placing him on the 15-day disabled list with a left elbow impingement. The Braves have called up Luis Avilan to fill Venters' vacated roster spot.
Venters, who had struggled to a 4.45 ERA and a .313 opponents average in 40 appearances this season, had been the subject of speculation that he may have been sent down to Triple-A Gwinnett to iron out his struggles. He had previously given up three home runs over his entire career, but he had given up six already this year.
In 16 appearances (12 starts), Avilan has compiled a 3.23 ERA in 16 appearances with Double-A Mississippi. The 22-year-old has struck out 55 and walked 31 in 61 1/3 innings.Tags: Atlanta, Atlanta Braves, Jonny Venters, Luis Avilan, MLB
