The Atlanta Braves got their late-inning heroics from Jason Heyward, but Eric Hinske provided a bit of drama in the eighth inning of the opening game of the their three-game series with the St. Louis Cardinals when he became the first Braves player to be ejected from a game.
Hinske attempted to check his swing on a two-strike pitch from Cardinals reliever Mitchell Boggs, but home plate umpire Mike Mulchlinski ruled that he had committed to the swing, resulting in a livid Hinske immediately arguing the call.
Although he is the first Braves player to be tossed this year, Fredi Gonzalez was ejected May 3 by Chris Conroy.
Ejections are typically accompanied by a fine of about $1000.
