Atlanta Braves legend Chipper Jones will miss what is probably his final home opener with swelling in his surgically repaired left knee.

Dave O'Brien reports that Jones had swelling beginning on the flight back to Atlanta from Houston Wednesday, and even though he stayed off it and iced it all day Thursday, there was still too much for him to take the field Friday.

Trainers feared that with so much fluid, he may have injured his quadriceps, which he did when he returned from his last surgery last July.

“I really didn’t want to miss this one,” Jones said. “I knew at times I’d wake up and not be able to go, but I have no idea it would be the home opener.”

Martin Prado will fill in for Jones at third base, and Matt Diaz will start in left field.
