Atlanta Braves reliever Cristhian Martinez was arrested for driving under the influence early Monday morning in Gwinnett County. According to Gwinnett County jail records, Martinez's blood alcohol registered more than .10, and he was also charged with improper lane change and impeding the flow of traffic. He was booked into Gwinnett County jail at 4:24 AM and was released at 10:41 AM.
Martinez, along with several other Braves pitchers, left early from the spring training facility in Orlando to prepare for Tuesday's exhibition game at Coolray Field in Gwinnett.
Martinez secured a spot in the Braves bullpen after posting a 1.38 ERA in eight appearances. He allowed only two runs and three walks in 13 innings while recording 13 strikeouts. Martinez has appeared in 64 games over the past two seasons, and he proved himself to be a valuable member of the bullpen last season. He posted a 3.36 ERA in 77 2/3 innings to go along with 58 strikeouts.
